About Craig Howell

Craig Howell's music is definitively Texas and unapologetically country - a culmination of years spent playing in the honky tonks and dance halls of the Lone Star State and beyond. Born and raised in South Texas, Craig's musical talents developed an early age. Even as young as 11 years old he was a song leader in his local congregation. A standout athlete in high school, he was also heavily involved in choir and would ultimately accept a vocal scholarship to Abilene Christian University. While majoring in Agriculture, during this time he began to teach himself guitar and began singing and playing with any local group in west Texas who would give him a chance. Craig would eventually become a local semi-finalist in the Dodge/Wrangler Country Showdown which was well-known battle of the bands competition.

Following his graduation from college, Craig pursued the life of a cowboy, working ranches in West Texas and New Mexico while still honing his musical skills. He was increasingly encouraged to try his hand at pursuing music professionally so he packed his bags and guitar for a move to Austin, Texas.

For the next few years he began climbing the ranks with a number of local bands before hitting the road with the duo act "Blake & Brian" on Nashville's MCG/Curb record label. The act toured extensively throughout the U.S. in support of their debut album garnering some radio airplay and video on CMT. Following the group's dissolution, Craig and a handful of former members formed the popular Somewhere in Texas Band with the goal of reconnecting with their Texas dancehall roots. The band would become a staple of the central Texas dancehall scene with their mix of western swing, honky-tonk, and traditional country favorites while also performing many of the current hits.

Craig, along with a band comprised of seasoned veteran musicians, has carried on this tradition of "keepin' ya on the dance floor" and continues to wow audiences at every turn. Look for an upcoming studio album soon!
